Objectives of WP 6 led by TCD 

  • To get a picture of reasons given for women’s employment
  • To get an insight into to motives behind decision making; i.e. is employment based on informed choices – or not?
  • To get insight as to what informs decision – responsibilities in relation to care, care facilities available on the formal (public and private) as well as the informal (black-market work) care market, a preference for leisure, family and marital relationships (the status of the spouse), problems with discrimination, opportunities in relation to education, training and retraining (life long learning), flexible work arrangements, financial insecurity/generosity of welfare benefits, active labour market policies promoting employment etc.
  • To get insights into the local cultural orientations of women
  • To get insights into the factors – or combination or cumulation of factors – that are most influential for women’s employment decision
  • To get a multifaceted insight as to how women perceive of their opportunities and restrictions for formal employment.
  • To get insights as to what type of formal jobs women in different localities, occupations, socio-economic groups, age groups etc. find attractive.
  • To develop recommendations for governments and other relevant actors to improve the employment prospects of women.
  • To disseminate the results from the analyses
